Sarah Hijazi illustration

Sarah Hegazi was an Egyptian queer, feminist, and activist that was detained, imprisoned, tortured, and sexually assaulted after raising a Rainbow Flag at a in Cairo in 2017. Hegazi sought asylum in Canada where she lived with PTSD and depression resulting from the prison torture she had experienced in Egypt.

She committed suicide in June 14th, 2020 leaving a very touching letter to the world.

Here’s a tribute to Hijazi, and the last sentence of her letter that reads:
“To the world – you were cruel to a great extent! But I forgive.”
